Beecher's Handmade Cheese

Updated: Nov 28, 2019

Food: Do you like cheese? Then you will fall in love with Beecher's Handmade Cheese located in New York City's Flatiron District. There are two spaces that make up this restaurant. Upstairs: a more casual atmosphere where you can purchase cheese from the cheese counter to take home. It features unlimited amounts of dairy options, as well as sandwiches and snacks to have at the upstairs seating or to take to go. There is full table and bar service upstairs, but it is a bit more casual. Downstairs: is The Cellar. A more intimate space with dimmer lights, couch seating, and bar seating. Both upstairs and downstairs follow the same menu, most specifically the incredible happy hour. This happy hour features cocktails, wines, and beers, but it also features select food items like the "world famous" mac and cheese, meatballs, cheeseboard, and salad.

Drinks: Extensive wine list, as well as specialty cocktails that all pair perfectly with the cheeses and dishes on the menu.

Decor: Getting into more detail about the same, the upstairs is a cute cafe with a whole cheese counter and cheese display where you can dine in or order cheese to go. You can see the cheese being made in the back with seating suited for a more causal meal, but downstairs in "The Cellar" it's a more intimate, secluded dining experience. Perfect for date night, this spot has tables lit by candlelight as well as couch seating and a bar. I've been here for dinner, drinks, happy hour, late night drinks- you name it, I've tried it at Beecher's.

My fav: The "World's Best Mac & Cheese" comes in a cast iron skillet and is cooked to perfection. Last time we visited, my boyfriend and I did the cheese plate with a class of wine- perfect starter. Then we got the Mac & Cheese flight where we got to pick 3 mac and cheeses off the menu that we wanted to sample. The perfect way to try more without committing to a full skillet. If I haven't sold you on this place yet, you better get there to just try it out yourself.
